I’ve been taking pictures since I was about 10 with a big, and much regretted, gap in the middle through high school and university. My first SLR was a much-loved Minolta XE-5. I can only hope that whoever ripped it off from my apartment many years ago is as happy with it as I was. In the following years, I have used a succession of Nikons, lovely machines all but with cameras, as with so much else in life, there’s nothing like your first.

I moved tentatively into digital a few years ago vowing that I would still remain true to film. Alas, it turns out that I’m looser than I thought for I’ve grown to love the clarity and convenience of digital. It’s not that my F80 is collecting dust in a cupboard but now when traveling it’s mostly the D80 I pack.

For scans I use a Konica-Minolta Dimage Scan Elite 5400II. Sadly, Minolta’s film scanners were casualties of its acquisition by Sony.
